The Groundhog is a wireless, permanent traffic analyzer that accurately
detects vehicle count, speed and classification data. The sensor
collects data without any external sensors, loops or tubes, providing
you with a low maintenance solution for areas where on-going traffic
studies are needed. Whether you are managing local roadways, a bridge,
parking garage, construction area, or traffic in and out of local
points of interest, the Groundhog provides key data necessary for
effective traffic analysis, control and management.
The self-contained, in-pavement sensor utilizes
Vehicle Magnetic Imaging technology to detect vehicle count, speed and
classification. The Groundhog then reports wirelessly to a site
controller alongside the roadway or a road weather station. The
Groundhog provides accurate traffic data with much less maintenance and
replacement costs than traditional inductive loop technology. And, when
used with Wireless Data Management (WDM) software, traffic data can
easily be presented in the form of reports, charts and graphs.

low visibility warnings, “vehicle-in-median” warnings, variable message
sign notifications as well as incorporate video monitoring and
atmospheric sensors.
WHY CHOOSE A GROUNDHOG SYSTEM?
With Other Automatic Vehicle Count Systems, You’ll Have…
- Extensive Labor
- Unrepairable Components
- Significant Structural Impact
- Expensive Replacement Costs
- Extended Lane Closure Time
With A Groundhog Permanent Count Station, You’ll Have…
- Minimal Structural Impact
- Minimal Labor and Lane Closure Times
- Fast and Easy Replacement or Repair
PERMANENT COUNT STATION (PCS) APPLICATION
- The Groundhog is frequently used in the Permanent Count Station
application. This system utilizes a network of wireless Groundhogs
which transmit to local base units that then relay the information into
the convenience of an office. This data is crucial in traffic analysis,
control and management and can be represented in the form of
histograms, charts and graphs.
